Kolkata restaurants reap Rs 1,100 crore earnings during Durga Puja festivities

The recent Durga Puja celebrations in Kolkata witnessed not only fervent visits to the beautifully adorned pandals and idol displays but also a substantial influx of customers to local restaurants. According to the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Eastern India (HRAEI), various eateries in the city recorded earnings of Rs 1,100 crore during the six-day Durga Puja celebration, extending until 'Dashami,' the festival's concluding day.

This substantial revenue marks a remarkable 20 percent increase compared to the corresponding period in the previous year. Notably, this marked the second Durga Puja celebration in the city since the relaxation of all COVID-19-related restrictions.

HRAEI President Sudesh Poddar highlighted the preliminary estimates, stating, "According to preliminary estimates, restaurants in the metropolis achieved a remarkable turnover of over Rs 1,100 crore during this period." The impressive earnings underscored the festive spirit and strong patronage for restaurants in Kolkata during the festival, providing a significant boost to the local hospitality industry.

The festive season provided a welcome economic stimulus, offering a positive indicator of recovery for businesses in the region.
